Know more Culture to Appreciate more

As a Korean I want to introduce our culture to the foreigners that might visit Korea in the future. I want to introduce some of our culture.

Hanbok

Hanbok is Korean nation cloth made of fabric and silk. History of hanbok started since BC 37. It is made of many different colors of silk to make the cloth more beautiful. Many people
compared Hanbok to rainbow, because of the colors. Designs of Hanbok have changed over time
16th century (free size) = It has long sleeves, and its loose style. It was made loose so that anyone can fit in the cloth. It was also made big to show the wealth.
17th century (fit size) = At this time they made Hanbok fit to the size of the owner. The size of the top became shorter and sides became narrow and skirt became more fit to the body.
18th century (tight size) = Hanbok was made tight to show the body line of the woman wearing.
19~20th centuries (exposed) = It is the modern style it is made to emphasize the beautiful body of woman. Top became shorter, and it is easier to wear and to take off than before.

Language

Korea has clear history of our language. It was made on 1446 by Great king Sejong. Before we had our own language we used Chinese characters, but Chinese characters were only taught to the high class people, and does who had money. King Sejong took pity on the people and made language that has 17 consonants and 11 vowels and named it Hun-min-jung-um, it means “the right sound that teaches the people”l. Hun-min-jung-u totally changed the life of people. It was easy to learn, to teach, and to express one’s thoughts. So we called king Sejung the great king Sejong.
